On Wednesday 24 May, Alan L & Ron completed CES 3, and had a better catch than CES 2, as there were some juveniles starting to show (Robin and Long-tailed Tit).
The final tally was 13 + (17), made up of Robin 4 + (2), Dunnock (2), Blackbird (4), Song Thrush (2), Chiffchaff 2 + (1), Garden Warbler 1, Blackcap 1 + (2), Cettis Warbler (2), Goldcrest 1, Long-tailed Tit 3, Great Tit (2) and Bullfinch 1.
One of the Cettis Warbler was ringed as a juvenile in July 2010, at the jetty. He has been re-caught nine times since, moving to establish a territory (on the ditches between the garden and rb2), in 2014.
There have been a couple of nest box visits, before and after the CES.
On Sunday 21st, Jerry made a quick visit to check the rb1 and Cath boxes. Only one brood of (4) Blue Tit were ready to ring, but he also lifted a Blue Tit and 2 Pied Flycatcher. One surprise was to find that an empty box on 13th, had a Pied Fly with 4 eggs (must have put the nest together in four days). An adjacent box, with a lined nest on 13th, was still empty - obviously not to the female's liking.
On Thursday 25th, Andy and Jerry spent about an hour "prepping" a net lane near the sailing club, ready for our Reed Warbler RAS. Afterwards a few more broods were ringed - two of Blue Tit (8 & 5) and one Great Tit (5). Alan L returned on the evening of 25th, to strim the paths and net lanes (before the growth becomes too long), in good time before CES4 is due.
