On Thursday 18th (after a three day spell of wet weather), Carlton was able to do CES2. The morning session went well, except for the small number of birds, with just 7 + (10) caught. A female Cettis warbler (with brood patch 3), in gn7 mid morning being the highlight. A recently fledged Robin - the first juvenile (of any species) to be caught this year, heralding what we hope will be a more successful breeding season than 2016.
Some of the shelterbelt boxes were checked, with two having failed (SB12 and SB14) - maybe due to the recent poor weather, and a brood of 5 Great Tit was ringed in SB4. The female Blue Tit in SB9 was "lifted" but the chicks seemed a little too young to ring (some still in pin with eyes shut, ideally needing a few days).
The day's total (including non-CES birds) was Robin 1, Wren 1 + (3), Dunnock 1 + (2), Song Thrush 1 + (1), Blackcap (1), Garden Warbler 1 + (1), Reed Warbler 1, Cettis Warbler 1, Great Tit 5p, Blue Tit (1) and Bullfinch (2).
