Nest box check, and Canada Goose recovery

On Saturday 13 May, Jerry checked all our nest boxes - at RB1, RB2, SB and Cath.  It was a bit disappointing, with just a few Blue Tit/Great Tit at each site, some "starter" wasp nests and a couple of boxes occupied by mice.  The only "quality" species were at Cath, where there was a Redstart and three Pied Flycatcher nests - one box with c/6 Piefl was on the ground when Andy checked on 28/4 (he wasn't able to secure it back onto the tree then, but wedged it against the nails).  Only two broods of Great Tit (9 & 6) were big enough to ring, and 6 female Blue Tit were lifted.  One new, and five previously ringed between Nov 2012 and July 2015, confirming how poor the 2016 breeding season was.  Most had been re-caught several times, moving around our usual netting sites, but the most interesting was one ringed in the garden in Nov 2012, and not seen again until today, at a Cath nest box.

Canada Goose 5275591 was ringed on 28 June 2105, and was shot at Thruxton, Hereford - 676 days, 32 km, 73 degrees (the Hereford area is a usual destination for the Lake birds).
