Two Jetty sessions

Alan and Ron carried out a couple of sessions at the Jetty on the 6th and 7th of July. A roost on the evening of the 6th, the weather was breezy and not really in their favour but at least the rain held off and temperature stayed over 15c. It was all very quiet with only a few Sand Martins reacting to the tape, the most at any one time were approx 15-20 which came to investigate but stayed high.

A Hobby flew past (attracted by the sound from the speaker) coming from left of jetty towards point and was never seen again. The total caught were 6 new birds, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Sand Martin, 3 Chiffchaff and two good retrap Reed Bunting. Good views of Tawny Owl's later that night with 3 in total, a net across the track leading down to hide between the gates would probably catch one as they fly up there. Worth a try one night!

The morning of the 7th started with some cloud but only the odd very light shower and not enough to effect the catch or even wet Alan or Ron. Nothing spectacular in numbers but they did have a nice Blackcap & Pied Flycatcher.

It is also worth mentioning that the 1000th bird was ringed on the evening of 6 July and it wasn't until 26th that we did it in 2014. So yet more evidence that it has been a good season at the lake so far.

Nets were up & open 6th = 19:30 to 22:30 then furled. 7th = 04:20 to 10:30 and the totals for the two days were:
