Canada Geese still providing surprise movements

With almost 4000 Canada Geese ringed at the Lake, and almost 3000 caught there already ringed, it is surprising that new movements are still being identified.

The nearest moulting flock (of any size) to Llangorse is at Chew Valley Lake, and despite over 30 years ringing, there have only been a handful of movements between the two sites, and none in recent years -
All previous records have gone from Llangorse to Chew - 5199203 ringed on 06/07/97 and 5199361 ringed on 05/07/98 were caught at Chew's roundup on 27/06/00. 

In addition three birds ringed on 04/07/99 (5199473, 5210510 and 5210561) were shot at Chew on 01/01/01.
At our 2013 roundup, we caught four birds with unfamiliar ring numbers (it is unusual to catch any birds with non LRGp rings), and all four had previously been ringed as adults at Chew Valley Lake, providing the first movements from Chew to Llangorse - 5251945 was ringed on 26/06/07, 5262044 on 29/06/10 and 5262150 & 151 on 28/06/11.

Another Canada found to have moved in a more "usual" direction, is 5266069.  Ringed at the Lake as a gosling on 3 July 2011, it was recaught at Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria on 2 July 2013.  A colour ring was added - LBRW(AAKC);RBM  for those unfamiliar with the coding, that's colour ring on the lower left leg - red ring with white letters (AAKC), and metal on lower right.  Movement of 274 km, 5 degrees (N), 730 days.
