Blackcap session 3

After some heavy overnight rain, conditions improved for an early session on 14th Sept by George, Andy and Jerry. A respectable total of 39 + (13), made up of:

14 + (2) Chiff,

1 Wilwa, 

1 Lotti, 

1 Treec, 

12 + (2) Blaca, 

1 Reewa, 

1 Dunno, 

1 + (3) Robin, 

1 Spofl (only the second of the year), 

1 + (3) Bluti, 

(1) Bullf, 

1 + (1) Sonth

4 + (1) Blabi.  

Spotted flycatcher

As in the last couple of sessions, most Blaca were caught in the first hour or so after first light, and most Chiff in the late morning.

Gareth helped out at Uskmouth with the Goldcliffe Ringing Group on the same morning, and had a comparable catch of 44 + (1) including 19 Blaca and 13 Chiff.

Most Chiff in this session were caught at first light, with much less movement later in the morning.

Also included in the catch was this juvenile male sparrowhawk.
