I visited the garden while Jerry and Amy had a go at RB2 on the 13th for quite a high day catch totalling 58 new birds and (19) retraps, considering that we are in the middle of a heat wave!
The garden catch comprised:
Chiff 7 (2);
Wilwa 3;
Blaca 7 (2);
Robin 1 (2);
Dunno 1 (1);
Redst 3;
Bluti 4;
Bullf 1;
Blabi 4;

Dunno 1 (1);
Redst 3;
Bluti 4;
Bullf 1;
Blabi 4;
Total 31 (7);
This 3J Redstart is probably male, as new flank feathers coming through as part of its post juvenile moult appear bright orange.
The Reed bed catch comprised:
Chiff 2;
Wilwa 3;
Reewa 9 (10); ( one retrap with ring V748031 was ringed as a 3J in rb2 on
11/07/08 (colour ringed as part of Peter's mass gain study) and has not
been recaptured since.)
Blaca 2;
Robin 1;
Bluti 5;
Reebu 5;
Marti (1);
Cetwa (1); ( X790662 was ringed as a 3JM on 05/08/11 at the jetty, and
re-caught in rb2 in Sept 12.)

Total: 27 + (12)
Jerry returned to the garden on 14th and had another reasonable catch
(considering it was a "follow on" session) of 22 + (6) made up of
2 + (1) Chiff,
(1) Wilwa,
2 Robin,
8 Blaca,
3 Bluti,
1 + (1) Greti,
2 Sonth,
3 + (2) Blabi,
1 Grswo.

It was another very hot day, and the last bird of the day was the Woodpecker in gn2 - the only bird caught in that net. There were good numbers of Juv Blaca about (as on 13th), boding well for the tape sessions later in the year.
Some recent recoveries received -
Cango 5252593 ringed 2006, and only ring found at Apperley, Glos in May 2013. The finder considers that it is "possible that it (the body) was brought in by flooded river over winter" so could have originated from our more usual recovery area of Hereford & Worcester further up the Severn.
Cango 5257657 ringed 2009, and shot at St Brides, Newport, Pembs in Jan 2013, a new location (and direction) for "Llangorse" birds.
As this location was unusual, Jerry checked with the finder, and the bird was in fact shot at St Brides, Newport, Gwent - a much more expected location given the movements, in recent years, of birds down the Usk Valley.
Sedwa T325032 ringed 19/08/04 and controlled Carlton NR, Barnsley, S Yorks on 29/07/06 - a very late report (possibly picked up, as not a retrap, when entering data).
Goldf Y347173 ringed 24.10.12 and controlled South Walney BO, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria on 03.05.13.
