Jeremy had an early start at the Jetty on 4th August, with three different tapes playing by 0400 - (a mix of Sedge/Reed/Marsh Warblers, Aquatic and Grasshopper). The nets were up by 0430 , and first bird was a Sedwa at 0500, when it was "quite light"!! The majority of birds were caught between 5 and 7, and the session finished at 0900. The early start was well worth it with a catch of 45 + (5), made up of Sedwa 25, Reewa 17 ( 5 ), Wilwa 2 and Wren 1.
The Sedge Warbler were mostly (as expected) near to the tape, at the Jetty end of the net lane. In the absence of Aquatic and Grasshopper, the bird of the day was a Sedge - now on the move and some starting to fatten up. There were a few House Martin about, which he tried to "pull in" with a tape at 0800, they responded but stayed high over the net, and it might be better to try again during light rain conditions, when they naturally feed over the reeds.
