CES 10

On Sun 3 August, Jerry, Amy and Carola completed CES 10. Catching was slower than the last couple of CES sessions, with almost half of the 26 + (16) birds coming in a single net round in mid session. The species mix comprised - 1 Wren, 5 Chiff, 2 Wilwa, 1 Goldc, 3 + (1) Robin, (2) Dunno, 3 + (1) Sonth, (2) Blabi, 1 + (7) Blaca, 1 + (1) Garwa, 1 + (1) White - one from the first brood, and presumably, a new bird from the second brood, 1 Greti, 1 Treec, 1 Nutha and 5 + (1) Bullf. Best sighting was again "non bird" with 21 spikes of Flowering Rush at the start of rb1. Long term members may remember (in the mid 1980's) when one was discovered in the access to our main net lane in rb1, and the difficulty of avoiding treading on it, especially when doing roost catches.

Flowering Rush Butomus umbellatus, a regular sight at Llangorse, but possibly not in Wales?
