Mid October and more Canada Goose recoveries

Jerry tried an assortment of calls on 9th October, but had little success, with just 4 + (2) birds caught. There then followed a period of very wet and windy weather, which put an end to any ringing. Once this had passed through, and high pressure dominated, Jerry and Jeremy alternated days, and managed almost daily visits. They were hoping to catch the arriving Redwing, but these, and our other "usual" autumn visitors (such as Goldcrest) were in short supply. With the high pressure, came sunshine, which depressed the catches until late afternoon, when the sun dipped below the shelterbelt.
With five visits between 14th and 19th, Jeremy had the highest catch (on 18th) - a respectable 25 + (6). It included the first batch of Lesser Redpoll for the year, and a control Siskin, while on 19th, Jerry's catch was less than half of this, but did include a Jay (a species we don't catch every year).
