September - week 3, plus Blackcap/Canada Goose recoveries

On Monday 17th, Jerry had a quiet time in the garden, with just 9 + (6). The session ended mid morning when Jeremy and Peter arrived, and the three of them continued with cutting the rb2 willows. While they concentrated on one side of the boardwalk, a team from BBNP (Sam, Ella and three volunteers), concentrated on the other side. It has been much drier than usual this year, making access considerably easier. With the repeated cutting over recent years, it now looks like we have got on top of the willow encroachment, at least within about 20m of the boardwalk. In future years it should be possible to extend this area, to once more link rb2 with the point reedbed.

The weather then deteriorated, with strong winds and rain, but on Wednesday 19th, conditions briefly calmed, and Jeremy took advantage to visit. Blackcap passage was still quiet, but he had a catch of 13 + (0). Another break in the weather on Saturday 22nd, saw Jerry and Kim in the garden, but the break was shorter than forecast (with rain arriving mid morning), and their catch was just 10 + (7).

Species mix - Wren 1, Dunnock (1), Robin (2), Blackbird 3 + (3), Reed Warbler 1, Blackcap 14 + (4), Chiffchaff 6 + (1), Blue Tit 1 + (1), Great Tit 5, Treecreeper 1 and Bullfinch (1).

Blackcap S932878 was ringed at the jetty on 11 July 2018 (JR), and was caught at Nightingale Wood, Swindon on 6 September - 57 days, 114 km, 109 degrees.

Canada Goose 5275996 was ringed on 26.06.2016, and was shot at Bassaleg, Newport on 04.09.2018 - 800 days, 42 km, 160 degrees
