On Tuesday 21st, Andy was at the jetty, and Jerry was in rb2. Their catches were 22 + (1) and 43 + (6) respectively. While Jerry was filling up the drinkers afterwards, he had a (c400mm long) Grass Snake under the "bin lid" at gn6 - the first time we've had a snake under it (and only about half the size of the one he saw near the hut a week or so ago). The rest of the week saw a decent run of visits to rb2.
On Wednesday, Jeremy had a quiet session with just 25 + (5). Overnight Wed/Thurs, a rain front crossed the country, clearing the Lake area just before dawn, and a decent number of migrants were following it.
Jerry had a catch of 53 + (11) on Thursday, about half of which were Sedge Warblers. They were caught mainly in the first couple of hours, whereas the (local) Reed Warblers were caught later, as they began to move around when the reeds were drying out. The Grass Snake was sunning itself next to the gn6 "bin lid" at midday.
On Friday, Andy had a very quiet first couple of hours, before finally ending on 14 + (4), when a few Willow Warbler responded to his playback.
Finally, Jerry was back on Saturday for a real "autumnal" session - heavy dew (the reeds didn't even dry out) and only 7 C. It was what Jeremy would call a "5 coffee morning" - he assesses how busy he has been by the number of cups he's had. The catch didn't even reach double figures - just 6 + (1), but the morning was boosted by two Hobby chasing over the wood.
Species breakdown for the week's sessions - Wren 3 + (1), Blackbird 1, Robin 1 + (1), Cettis Warbler 1 + (1), Grasshopper Warbler 1, Reed Warbler 74 + (21), Sedge Warbler 51 + (1), Blackcap 5, Willow Warbler 9, Chiffchaff 7, Blue Tit 6, Great Tit 2, Treecreeper (2), Bullfinch (1) and Reed Bunting 2.
