August week 3 - reedbed tape sessions

On Monday 13th, the forecast was for light rain around dawn, so Jerry opted for the jetty (as the nets are in view, and there is plenty of shelter). Catching was slow, but he ended with a reasonable 31 + (3), made up of Redstart 1, Reed Warbler 7, Sedge Warbler 8 + (1), Blackcap 8 + (1), Garden Warbler 1, Willow Warbler 2, Chiffchaff 1, Blue Tit 1 + (1), Great Tit 1 and Long-tailed Tit 1.

On Tuesday, he was in rb2, for a very similar total of 31 + (7). Jeremy did Wednesday, but he had problems with the timed playback system, so had a poor catch of just 12 + (4). Species details for the two days - Wren 1, Cettis Warbler 1 + (2), Reed Warbler 17 + (8), Sedge Warbler 11, Blackcap 6, Chiffchaff 3 + (1), Blue Tit 3 and Reed Bunting 1.

Heavy overnight rain was forecast, so on Thursday, Alan L and Jerry spent a couple of hours re-coppicing some of the taller trees along the boardwalk, to encourage low growth and improve the catching potential for Sylvia/Phyllosc warblers.
