On Saturday 8th July, Alan L, George and Jerry were at the jetty for an evening session. The roost was unsuccessful, despite some 500 Sand Martin using the reeds only c40m west of the jetty, and only one Swallow was caught. Other species resulted in a total catch was 15 + (7).
The following morning, Carlton and Elinor (later joined by Andy) continued with a RAS visit and had a total of 26 + (10), (plus a Dunno ringed with CP's own rings).
Totals for the overnight sessions were - Swallow 1, Robin 1, Reed Warbler 26 + (14), Blackcap 1, Garden Warbler (1), Whitethroat 1, Willow Warbler 1, Chiffchaff 7, Blue Tit 1 + (1) and Reed Bunting 2 + (1).
The evening/morning catches added five more Reed Warbler for the RAS.
George was in the garden (later joined by Andy) for CES visit 7. The weather was good - though possibly a bit too warm/sunny for a really top catch, nevertheless numbers kept ticking over to end on 27 new & (7). The "bird of the day" was a juvenile Redstart, followed soon after by a juvenile Coal Tit (both in gn6).
Total made up of Wren 1 + (2), Redstart 1, Robin (2), Dunncock 3, Song Thrush 3, Blackbird 4, Chiffchaff 4, Willow Warbler 1, Blackcap 5 + (1), Reed Warbler 1, Blue Tit, 1 + (1), Coal Tit 1, Great Tit 1, Trecreeper 1, Bullfinch (1).
On Wednesday 12th, Andy and Jerry (joined by Lloyd Richards - trainee with Steph Tyler) were in rb2, for a decent catch of 46 + (9), despite the breeze. A brood of Swallow were later ringed at Ty Mawr.
The totals were made up of Swallow 4, Wren 2 + (1), Robin 2, Redstart (1), Reed Warbler 31 + (5), Blackcap 1, Willow Warbler 5, Chiffchaff 1 + (1), Blue Tit 2, Treecreeper 2 and Reed Bunting (1).
We have now received details of the French Sedge Warbler caught at the jetty by Carlton & Andy last year - 7447707 was ringed on 15 Aug 2015 (as a 1st year bird), at Le Bon homme, St-Philbert de Grande Lei, Loire Atlantique it was caught on 24 July 2016 (probably a male), 344 days, 556 km 348 degrees
