On Friday 23rd June, Jeremy and Robin picked a near perfect day for their CES visit - warm, overcast and mainly calm (after the recent heatwave). Although it felt like it was "about to rain" late in the session, this held off until well after the session had ended. The first couple of net rounds were quite productive, before it quietened down a little around mid session, then picked up again in the second half. A Tawny Owl in the net prompted an early phone call to Jerry (to find out where the G rings were !! - Jerry had collected them ready for the goose roundup, in case some Mallard were caught). He popped up to the Lake with the rings, and then stayed to help with extractions, and putting the nets away.

The final catch of 81 + (20) was the third highest CES catch we have ever had (the top two were both for CES 7 sessions), and it was a long way above our previous CES 6 maximum of 68.
The species mix comprised - Tawny Owl 1, Robin 4 + (5), Redstart 1, Dunnock 2, Blackbird 4 + (3), Cettis Warbler (2), Chiffchaff 36 + (5), Garden Warbler 1, Blackcap 6, Goldcrest 4, Marsh Tit 1, Coal Tit 1, Blue Tit 11 + (2), Long-tailed Tit 5 + (1), Treecreeper 2, Goldfinch 1, Siskin 1 and Bullfinch (2).
The number of Chiffchaff ringed has set a new day ringing total (well above our previous 24 on 04/07/2009, for CES 7).
