LRGp waits almost 40 years for a Yellow-browed, and then .............

On Saturday 22 October, Ruth and Jerry had a mid morning start, it was cold and misty, and the sun didn't break through until about noon.  Redwing and Redpoll were playing, and a couple of each species were attracted, as well as two late Blackcap.  The star bird, however, was the Group's second ever Yellow-browed Warbler (gn6 adjacent to the Redpoll player at 11.30), just two weeks after Jeremy caught the first.  A late afternoon finish resulted in a modest total of 12 + (7).

Spurred on by this success (and despite the next two days forecast to be "breezy"), Carlton/Andy (Sunday), and Ruth/Jerry (Monday), thought it was worth another session.  The scrub area was much quieter, and the catches on both days disappointing.  Just 6 + (1) on Sunday (including two Siskin and a Lesser Redpoll), and 4 + (3) on Monday.  On the Monday, despite good numbers of thrushes in the churchyard and garden, only one Blackbird was attracted to the scrub nets.  The first round of three birds was followed by three hours of nothing, before four birds were caught on the final round.

Details of the catches - Robin (4), Dunnock (2), Redwing 2, Song Thrush 1, Blackbird 1, Blackcap 2, Yellow-browed Warbler 1, Goldcrest 2, Blue Tit 2 + (1), Marsh Tit (1), Great Tit 3, Long-tailed Tit (1), Treecreeper (1), Siskin 2, Lesser Redpoll 4 and Bullfinch 2 + (1).
