Early October

Carlton started a session on Sunday 2nd in misty conditions (making the nets covered in water droplets), though it quickly dried up for a sunny day. Jerry arrived later and continued into the afternoon. The total was just 12 + (12), with the main species Goldcrest - 4 + (1). Most of the catch was during Carlton's attendance, though Jerry did get our first Siskin of the autumn, and a control adult Chiffchaff (HAD449).

On Tuesday, Andy and Jerry had a second go at the Pennorth feeders, and had a reasonable catch of 20 + (3), made up mainly of Blue Tit and House Sparrow. In the afternoon, Jerry opened the garden nets for a few hours (the wind was calmer than forecast, but he finished when he was catching more leaves than birds). Despite the time of day, he had a reasonable 10 + (7), which included our first Redwing of the autumn (only a couple of hours after Jeremy had phoned to say they had just arrived in Brynmawr).

On Thursday, Jerry tried a Redwing tape from first light, but none of the target species was caught (or seen). It was a bit breezier than forecast, and the morning ended on 13 + (7), the main species was Chiffchaff. In the afternoon he joined Andy to continue clearing willow at the jetty - to improve the view from the hide, and hopefully, also our catching next year.
