2000 up, and mid October "mixed tape" sessions

Our 2000th bird was ringed on 9th October (a Chiffchaff by George), a fairly similar date to 2014 (4th), about four weeks later than in 2015 (11th Sept), but about seven weeks earlier than in 2013 (30th Nov).

On Friday 14th, Peter tried the garden nets and had a catch of 8 + (20). He had a few problems getting the playback started, so put a net at the nyger feeders - unfortunately, the sunflower feeders had emptied and the tits were targeting the nyger, although he was happy to have 2 r/t Marsh Tit. Once the playback was sorted he relocated this net. On Sunday, Jerry made a brief visit trying for Siskin/Redpoll, the catch of 9 + (2) didn't include any of the target species, but he did catch a "late" Blackcap.

On Wednesday, Peter started off the morning with the scrub nets, and a net at both nyger and sunflower feeders. A modest catch at the feeders comprised mainly adult tits (few young birds from a poor breeding
season), including some from the Friday visit. A "mixed thrush" tape managed to pull in six Blackbird to the scrub nets, a species which has been a bit elusive in recent weeks. Ruth and Andy arrived at lunchtime, to help for a few hours, shortly before Jerry turned up to continue through to a roost session. Unfortunately all three 12v batteries "died" during the day, and only a small pocket player was available at roost time. Nevertheless it attracted single Redwing & Blackbird, and 6 Song Thrush. The day ended on a respectable 36 + (21).
