Jerry was in the garden on Fri 11th, for a catch of 16 + (5), the highlight of which were five Siskin. Seven Chiffchaff were also caught, bringing the year total to 191, just passing our previous second best year (186 in 2011) but well short of our best year (308 in 2010). The last Chiffchaff was also the 2000th bird of the year. After the successful July catch (
please see here), it looked like it might be on for a bumper year, but the disappointing August, and early September catches, means we will likely have a year total of about 2300 (unless the finch and feeder catches pick up in the final quarter). On Sat 12th, after heavy overnight rain, George and Ron were in the garden for a session interrupted by occasional showers. This reflected their poor catch of 9 + (2), which included a group of six Chiffchaff (caught next to the tape playing Siskin/redpoll song) and a Marsh Tit. Jeremy and Jerry were in rb2 dragging out the cut willow, which George and Ron helped to complete after their ringing session.
