Mid September catches

We haven't had much luck with roosts for several years now, but Jeremy and Jerry were not to be put off, and on Tues eve (15th) conditions were perfect. It started very well, and although there were only about 40/50 Swallow flying around, they caught 14 about an hour before sunset. However, when the light started to fade, a Hobby made repeated passes above the tape player, not quite low enough to get caught, and obviously deterring any more Swallows planning on coming in to roost at the jetty. Only one more was caught, and the session ended on 22 + (4). Apart from excellent views of the Hobby, the other highlight was an Otter feeding just off the jetty. 

On Thurs 17th, Andy and Jerry were in the garden, warbler passage was quiet, with just a few Blackcap and Chiffchaff ringed. The bulk of the catch was made up of part of the 50+ Siskin flock that were feeding in
the alders. The session ended on 28 + (1). 

On Sat 19th, Jeremy returned to the garden, it was very misty and cool until about 11.00 am, but the small catch included histarget species of Blackcap and Goldcrest, and ended on 13 + (6). Species mix for the week -

Swallow
