Slow Start to September

The high pressure for the first week of Sept, made for excellent netting conditions, but relatively few birds. Clear nights and early morning mist made for cold, wet reedbeds, with the first couple of hours producing only a handful of birds. Jerry had five visits in total (between the garden and rb2), and after the first two, opted for a bit of a lie-in, waiting for the sun to break over Mynydd Llangorse, when conditions warmed, in the hope that the catch might pick up a bit. Usually it didn't, but when the sky was clear, the sun was on the nets, making them fairly obvious to any passing bird. The highlight on the final morning was having the Grass Snake sunning on the "path logs" adjacent gn6, on every net round from about late morning on.

After the second rb2 visit, the site was closed down, with Jerry/Andy having an hour or so cutting some of the larger willow regeneration, near the boardwalk. Chiffchaff dominated the catch on two of the sessions, and overall, there was decent variety, the full species mix was -
