Recent Recoveries and November total

Details of three Canada Geese received recently - one from our 2011 roundup, shot in Perth & Kinross on 24 Sept 2014 - 1,179 days. 504 km. 360 deg. and two birds from our 2013 roundup (both found), at Builth Wells on 12 Oct 2014 - 469 days. 23 km. 334 deg. and at Pant y Llyn, Powys on 24 Oct 2014 - 481 days. 23 km. 334 deg.

Alan L tried a roost session on 31 Nov, but only caught a Dunnock, so it looks like the Redwing have now settled on their regular roost away from our catching area (we only seem to be successful in catching them in the first couple of weeks after they arrive). With 148 birds ringed in Nov, our YTD now stands at 2292, already our seventh highest annual total, although this is likely to improve a couple more places with the Dec catches. The Nov total is lower than in recent years, mainly because of the lack of high catches of Goldfinch, Lesser Redpoll and Siskin, as they exploit the abundance of natural seed this year.
