First frost of the year

Jerry had a few more quiet sessions to round off November, but the numbers were progressively improving. The low catches allowed time to do some work on fence-line clearance however, which is now well ahead of progress in recent years. He was joined by Carola on 22nd for a catch of just 3 + (4) - the best of which were 2 Redwing (in gn7 while putting up the nets). Andy helped on 24th for 6 + (3) - the best of which was a Lesser Redpoll. A hard frost (probably -5/6C) resulted in frozen nets, and unfurling had to wait for an hour until the temperature had risen to around zero. On 27th, Andy returned for a catch of 7 + (4) - including a 3F Cettis Warbler (aged on pronounced tail fault bars). On 29th Jerry was on his own and put an additional net through the SG gateways - as there seemed to have been a lot of thrush activity in the church field copse, and in the hedge between the point and rb2 fields, on his previous visits. This one net produced more birds than gn4-7 combined, and a day catch of 14 + (14) resulted - the best of which were a Magpie (new species for the year), and a Mistle Thrush.
