First Redwing of the Year

After a quiet week of wet and/or windy weather, on Wed 22 Oct Jerry and Josef were playing tapes in the garden, and catching the occasional Redwing. The main species of the day was caught, however, in just two net rounds, soon after the tapes were changed to Redpoll. Andy joined them for a couple hours (late in the morning), before Jeremy arrived to continue the session through to a roost. The day total ended on a respectable 42 + (4). On Thurs, Jerry and Leanne were back for a morning session, but the breeze had picked up, and neither of the previous days main species responded to the tapes. Catching was very quiet, until a tit flock went through at midday, comprising mainly "new birds". As the nyger seed had started to be taken, a net was set there for a couple of hours, but only a handful of "tits" were caught. The day ended on 17 + (3). On both days, the Great White Egret showed well in rb1, and a Merlin made an unsuccessful pass over the point, before flying across the Lake to the west side. Ringing details were - 2 + (1) Wren, 1 Dunno, 1 Robin, 6 Redwi, 1 Sonth, (1) Blabi, 1 Chiff, 4 Goldc, 5 + (2) Bluti, 4 + (1) Greti, (1) Marti, 1 Coati, 9 Lotti, (1) Treec, 1 Chaff and 23 Lesre.
