CES 2014 and recent recoveries

CES results have now been submitted to the BTO, and with 113 adults/292 juvenile, it was a big improvement over 2013. Although the adult total is not particularly high (a "knock-on" from the poor breeding season last year), the productivity figure of 258 (converted juvenile total for 100 adult) is our second highest ever, only beaten by 2010 with 314. The individual species had mixed fortunes however - a good breeding season for Robin 6/29 (adult/juv), Chiffchaff 8/41, Song Thrush 2/13 and Bullfinch 8/36, but a poor season for Willow Warbler 8/6, Blue Tit 7/10, Great Tit 6/3 and Nuthatch 2/3. The "tit" numbers will likely result in low catches at the feeders over the winter.

In addition we have just heard about two recoveries -
Canada Goose 5266220 ringed at the Lake 30/06/2013, and taken by a fox at Wellington, Hereford (a regular location for our birds) on 30/09/2014 - 457 days, 42 km
Lesser Redpoll D759866 ringed in Hampshire 25/01/2014 and controlled at the Lake 22/04/2014 - 77 days, 175 km
