Back to back sessions at RB2

On Fri 2nd Aug, Jerry and Andrew netted the "long boardwalk". After some overnight showers, it was a very breezy session at the ringing table, but the nets were more sheltered behind the wood. There weren't too many Sedwa attracted to the tapes - perhaps still a little early, but good practice for later in the month. A total of 28 + (5) caught, made up mainly of 20 + (2) Reewa, with 2 Sedwa, 1 Cetwa ( probably from the same brood as the bird from a week or so ago), 1 Blaca, 2 + (1) Bluti and 2 + (2) Reebu.

The real brains of our group!

Jerry returned on Sat 3rd, after some overnight thunderstorms, the showers were forecast to clear by first light, but went on until mid morning !!. The first net round produced 23 birds, including 16 Sedwa - new arrivals based on yesterday's catch and probably grounded by the rain, with fat scores of 20 - 40. The total for the day was 52 + (5), made up of 1 Kingf, 1 Wilwa, 1 Cetwa - probably the third from the same brood (Andy says there is another brood at the jetty), 10 + (3) Reewa, 37 Sedwa, 1 Blaca, (1) Robin, 1 Redst and (1) Blabi. The YTD total is now 987, so the next session (probably the CES) will likely have the 1000th bird of the year ringed.
