Mid October - Nanjizal

The annual visit to Nanjizal was our latest, and the team was Alan J, Carlton, Jerry and Peter. Although the weather was better than forecast, there were still three days when ringing was not possible, and the ringing days were wind affected with leaves being caught in most nets, and some had to be closed early. The highest day catches were Tuesday 18th with 112 + (13) and Thursday 20th with 109 + (26). There were still good numbers of Blackcap/Chiffchaff passing through, and Redwing/Fieldfare arrived on our final ringing day, but there were few unusual species - 2 Yellow-browed Warbler and 3 Firecrest being the best. With higher numbers of recaptures than usual, the poor weather was presumably deterring birds from moving on. After a blank year in 2021, four colour-ringed Mediterranean Gulls were seen, an adult probably ringed in Poland, and 3 juveniles probably from France (full details will be posted in due course).

Carlton's moth trapping was not as productive as in 2021 (weather only allowed two nights), but a few interesting species were recorded -
