Late February, and another Canada Goose recovery

By the weekend of 22/23, the water level had dropped by about 300mm, so access to the ringing hut was easier, but it wasn't really dry enough to get to the hut feeders, or around our main CES area. Andy managed a couple of sessions, but the weather was still a bit unsettled, and his catches were small. On 23rd he tried the Pennorth feeders for 7 + (5), made up of Dunnock 1, Blackbird 1, Blue Tit 5 + (3), Long-tailed Tit (1) and Nuthatch (1). One of the Blue Tits had previously wandered from the
jetty (July '15), to the garden (October '15), then to Ty Mawr (Jan '16), before back to the jetty (June '17 and July '18). Her movements easily tracked by Peter on DemOn.

On 27th, Andy had a final try at the Pennorth bird crop, as there was a reasonably sized flock still there. His catch was just 7 + (1), but on a positive note, half of them were "target species". The mix comprised Robin 1, Dunnock 1, Great Tit 1 + (1), Yellowhammer 3 and Reed Bunting 1. The February total was 70 ringed, bringing our YTD to 176.

Canada Goose 5266168 was ringed on 30 June 2013, and was found fresh dead (on the foreshore) at Caldicot, Monmouthshire, on 18 February 2020 - 2,424 days, 54 km, 134 degrees.
