October week 2

While some of the Group were away ringing in Cornwall (summary to follow), visits to the Lake continued, with a variety of tapes being played.  On Sunday 8th, George has a decent catch of 22 + (19), which included 9 + (6) Goldcrest, though the highlight was probably the Ring-necked Parakeet (flying around the shelterbelt/garden area). On Monday, Carlton had a reduced catch of 14 + (5), the best of which was our third young Cettis Warbler for the year.  On Thursday, Jeremy was back up to decent numbers, with 34 + (6).  It included 13 new Goldcrest, the last one brought our year total to 75, equaling our previous best year catch in 2008.  A small number of Song Thrush/Blackbird were caught, but no Redwing, though Carlton heard some as he arrived on 9th.  The breakdown for the three sessions was - Song Thrush 5, Blackbird 3 + (1), Robin 3 + (2), Dunnock 3 + (4), Wren 3 + (2), Cettis Warbler 1, Chiffchaff 5, Goldcrest 26 + (6), Blue Tit 5 + (7), Coal Tit 1, Great Tit 2, Long-tailed Tit (2), Treecreeper (2), Lesser Redpoll 1 + (1), Siskin 2, Goldfinch 1 and Bullfinch 9 + (3).
