Andy and Carlton had a 5-hr session in bright, warm sunshine on 15 March. They started with 3 x 60ft nets in the usual position, but later shifted one of these south to the dog-leg, and put up the 3-panel 'pony net' by the lower gateway.
Catching was slow at first, but improved late-morning after the nets were re-positioned. Flock size was much reduced, perhaps 40 Yelha and 30 Reebu, and a few Dunnocks in the margins. 3 Red-leg Partridges flushed from the crop, and a Chiffchaff sang.
Catch of 30 (7) as follows:
Yelha = 15 (3)
Reebu = 9
Chaff = 2
Wren = 2
Dunno = 1 (3)
Housp = 1 (1)
All the retraps were caught previously this winter in this birdcrop, apart from an adult male Yelha first ringed in the Eligro crop in March 2015.
A summary of all captures (and retraps in parenthesis) at the crop during the winter season 2016/17 is provided in the table below.
