Wednesday 8th Feb was calm and cloudy - ideal for trying the bird crop,
unfortunately not enough ringers were available (need 3 or 4 to be able
to move the birds into the catching area), so Andy and Jerry tried the
nyger feeders instead. It didn't start well, with one feeder
extensively squirrel damaged, and after 2 hours, the catch was only 3 +
(4). They packed up to try the Pennorth feeders, where it was only
marginally better with 4 + (5).
The species mix was Great-spotted Woodpecker 1 + (1), Coal Tit (1), Great Tit 2 + (2), Nuthatch (1), Treecreeper 1 + (1), Chaffinch 1, Siskin (2) and Goldfinch 2 + (1).
We have just received details of some "Acros" from our rb2 autumn ringing -
Sedge Warbler Z824348 ringed 24/08/16 and caught 30/08/16 at Tour aux Moutons, Donges, Loire-Atlantique, France 6 days, 519 km, 171 deg.
Reed Warbler Z824659 ringed 25/07/16 and caught 09/09/16 at Laguna de San Juan, Chinchon, Madrid, Spain 46 days, 1308 days, 181 deg.
Reed Warbler Z824817 ringed 06/08/16 and caught 05/09/16 at
Marais-Moison-Central, Messanges Landes, France 30 days, 913 km, 172 deg. This must be a stopover/fattening site as the bird was also caught on 25/09/16.
