On Saturday 3rd, Jerry arrived mid morning, to start work on replacing
the strainer post at the gate near gn3. A little later, Carlton arrived
to help, and (as the wind had eased a bit), he set nets gn4-7 (and
tapes), after lunch. The ground was still frozen, and became very
sticky as the surface thawed, however the earth below was dry, which
made it easy to dig, and then compact around the new posts.
Re-straining the barb wires would have to wait until the bramble has
been cleared. Two squirrels were hanging on the sunflower feeders
(probably taking more seed than the birds are getting !!), and were
becoming quite brazen. Jerry left mid afternoon, but Carlton continued
netting for another hour or so, to end on 8 + (4).
On Tuesday 6th, Jerry tried another afternoon session, and had a
reasonable catch of 18 birds (though only two of the birds were "new").
On Sunday 11th, Jeremy spent most of the morning clearing fencelines of overgrowing bramble, and mending "his" net (though there were only a few holes). Later in the morning, Elinor and Jerry put a net at the nyger feeders for a couple of hours, and had a quiet catch of 13 + (4), which included a good "turn over" of new Goldfinch, and some Siskin.

Canada Goose 5246721 was ringed on 01 July 2007, unlike most of our goose recoveries, this one was still alive, and had its ring read on 04 December 2016 at Caerphilly Castle - 3444 days. 39 km. 177 degrees.
