CES 4

Alan was at the Lake on Sat 4th June, to do some preparatory work for fitting our new solar panel (purchased with grant aid from the Brecon Beacons Trust).  Before leaving, he put up, and furled, the CES nets ready for George's visit the following morning.  It was hazy start, but this was soon burnt off for a calm, sunny day.  

Despite the sunshine, he had reasonable variety in the catch of 11 + (17), made up of 

Cettis Warbler (1), 

Sedge Warbler (2), 

Blackcap 2 + (2), 

Chiffchaff (1), 

Willow Warbler 1 + (2), 

Spotted Flycatcher 1, 

Dunnock (3), 

Robin 2, 

Song Thrush 1 + (1), 

Blackbird 1, 

Wren 1 + (2), 

Long-tailed Tit 1, 

Blue Tit (2), 

Greenfinch 1 and 

Goldfinch (1).   

The Stoat (previously seen by Alan), was still around.  George saw it often enough to think there may have been more than one, and raised nets 6 and 7 (so birds that might be caught in the bottom panel would be clear of any risk). 

The Spotted Flycatcher nest had small young (c2 days old) and an un ringed adult was caught in net 1.  

Other nests noticed during net rounds were a Wren (low in the ivy on the Ty Bach - facing the hedge),  A Blackbird in the Berberis next to net 1A, and a Wood Pigeon in the Hawthorn above the path between nets 5 and 6.
