Reed Warbler & Lesser Redpoll recoveries, and another quiet feeder session

Reed Warbler D439998 was ringed as a juvenile on 31 July 2014, and was controlled on its way south on 24 July 2015 at Mortagre-sur-Girande, Charente-Maritime, France - 358 days, 738 km, 166 degrees. It was likely hatched at the Lake, but what happened to this bird during the 2015 breeding season? - we didn't re-catch it in 2015, but this would be usual, as birds tend to breed away from their natal area (to reduce risk of inbreeding).

Lesser Redpoll D438746 was ringed as a 1st year on 30 November 2013, and was controlled at Worplesdon, Surrey on 23 February 2016 - 815 days, 198 km, 113 degrees. This bird was caught by Jeremy Gates, the climber who has come over, for the last ten years, to help ring Goshawk with Jerry.

On Friday 17th, Jerry was doing more maintenance work, and when the breeze dropped (coming from the east with no shelter for the feeder nets) he put up a net at the nyger feeders. In just over a couple of hours the catch was a (quality) 9 + (2), comprising 1 Chaffinch, 7 + (2) Siskin and 1 Reed Bunting. One of the Siskin was from three winters ago, and while checking for longevity, he discovered that one caught on 16 Feb was 5 years, 2 months and 7 days since ringing. This was a new longevity record for the Group, surpassing the existing one by over a year.
