CES 1 - 2014

With the CES season finally beginning Cartlon ventured to the lake yesterday and successfully completed CES 1. A very good first visit with a total of 41 birds being caught, which broke down as 21 new and 20 retraps:

coati 1,
blaca 4 (1),
garwa 1,
bullf 2 (1),
white 1,
robin 1 (1),
wilwa 4 (1),
chiff 2,
wren 1 (1),
nutha 1,
blabi 2 (1),
woodp 1,
chaff (2),
dunno (3),
bluti (3),
sonth (1),
cetwa (2)
greti  (3).

The stars of the show were undoubtedly the two cetwa, which were both in one of the scrub nets, but not at the same time, no brood patches, so maybe males especially as there was certainly a lot of song along the hedge/ditch adjacent to the scrub site. A whitethroat was another highlight singing in the bushes adjacent to one of the garden nets, where it was later caught, a lovely 5M.
Today's cracking Whitethroat

A good first CES doesn't always mean a great breeding season is ahead, but our fingers remain crossed that this will be the case this year.
