New Day Record for Redwing

On Fri 22 Nov, Jerry & Leanne tried a couple of nets in the point field copse (as there had been several Redwing feeding there on the previous weekend), but the small catch didn't have any of the target species. They moved to the nyger feeder, for a reasonable second session, which included nine Goldfinch. The day total ended with 17 + (3).

On Sat 23, Jeremy tried gn4-7 on a cold morning that hardly got above 2C. When Jerry arrived, late in the morning, he was just in time to see the ninth Redwing being ringed (surpassing the previous best day total of eight, only set in Oct 2011), and by the time Jeremy left, 12 had been ringed. 

Despite Jerry staying for a roost, that's where the new record stayed, and the change of tapes failed to attract more in the afternoon. The day total was 23 + (4).

The species mix for the weekend comprised:

12 Redwi, 

2 + (1) Blabi, 

(2) Greti, 

5 + (1) Bluti, 

1 Coati, 

1 Siski, 

9 Goldf, 

3 Lesre, 

1 Grefi and 

(1) Bullf.

The flood in the point field had fallen a little during the last couple of weeks, to about half the field now covered, and had a thin layer of ice on 23rd.  

About 80 Snipe were around the edge of the flood, including one group of about 60. 

Towards the end of the afternoon, a Great White Egret flew in, only to be chased off by a second, finally leaving in opposite directions (one towards the toe, the other towards the NW corner).
