CES 5 and a great recovery!

I had the pleasure of visiting the lake this morning to undertake CES 5. Conditions were perfect for ringing; overcast, still and warm and the catch didn't disapoint! Total for the CES was 38, which almost doubles the previous totals for the year! The increase in numbers was down to the abundance of young birds, with the majority of the catch being this year's young. Although, walking around the catching area, and later down to the reed beds, i couldn't help but feel that today's catch was only the tip of the iceberg, with juvenile birds calling and being fed everywhere i looked!

Had a few interesting captures like Woodpigeon and a fantastic Long Tailed Tit flock, which clearly included two or three families! Things were pretty busy by that time though so no photos sadly!!

Total 30 (8)

I also had a non CES Bluti retrap down in RB2 while checking the boxes!

So all in all a great day. I took a few photos (with my phone) which is always a bit fiddly when you are on your own, but the best of which are below!

We have just received a report of a Goldfinch (Y346487), ringed at the feeder net on 4 Oct 2012, which flew into a window at Bergerac, Dordogne, France, on 19 Mar. 166 days, 833 km, 161 degrees.
