Sedge Warbler controls, and CES 2/CES 3 visits

Sedge Warbler AVV1842 was ringed (as 3) in rb2 on 01.08.2023, and was caught at Honduron del Burro, Hinojos, Huelva, Spain on 29.08.2025. 759 days, 1657 km, 189 degrees.

Sedge Warbler BDW1541 was as ringed (as 3) in rb2 on 29.08.2025, and was caught at Chelmarsh Res, Nr Bridgnorth, Shropshire on 02.05.2026. 246 days, 86 km, 43 degrees.

The second CES visit of the year was undertaken by Ron and Jerry on Tuesday 12th May. It was forecast to be a cold start (only +3 C) so they opted to delay the visit by an hour (so 07.00 - 13.00) to allow conditions to warm up a bit. The weather was a mixture of sun/cloudy conditions with little wind, and although their catch was only 17 + (15) it was in fact the second highest of the last decade for CES 2, and included a couple of "quality" species. The mix was Great Spotted Woodpecker (1), Wren 1 + (2), Robin (2), Dunnock (1), Song Thrush 1, Mistle Thrush 1, Blackbird 4 + (1), Cettis Warbler (1), Willow Warbler 1 + (1), Blackcap 3 + (2), Garden Warbler 1, Pied Flycatcher 1, Spotted Flycatcher 2, Blue Tit (3), and Bullfinch 2 + (1).

Friday 22nd May saw the third CES visit with Andy and Jerry, and although it was almost constant sunshine they had a very respectable 27 + (11), our highest total for CES 3 since 1999. The mix was made up of Great Spotted Woodpecker 1, Robin 1 + (1), Dunnock 2, Blackbird 3 + (2), Song Thrush 2, Cettis Warbler 2 + (1), Chiffchaff 1 + (2), Willow Warbler (1), Blackcap 4, Blue Tit 2 + (1), Great Tit (1), Long-tailed Tit 9 + (1), and Bullfinch (1).
