Early February ringing

A wet start to the month, and few opportunities for netting. On 4th Andy had a catch of 2 + (1) Starling in the ground trap, but following this session Andy was away for a few days and the break in feeding has resulted in the the birds not having been seen in the village since this. On Saturday 14th, he and Jerry did the final (session 8) of the WRP for the 2025/26 winter. It was a cold start to the day, so they opted for a slightly milder afternoon session, and had a decent catch of 32 + (15) - made up of Great Spotted Woodpecker (1), Blackbird 1, Dunnock 1, Coal Tit (1), Blue Tit 16 + (13), Great Tit 7, Long-tailed Tit 3, House Sparrow 2, Goldfinch 1 and Greenfinch 1. In contrast to previous winters of the WRP, February did not produce the usual bonus of the start of the increase in finch numbers seen in Andy's garden that is more prominently noticed in March/April.
