Recent Recovery and 5th winter ringing project (wrp) visit.

Sedge Warbler AVV1137 that was ringed at the jetty on 26 August 2022 (as a young bird), was caught on 25 August 2023 (likely reported during an "end of year submission") at Saint-Froult, Charente-Maritime, France - 364 days, 688 km, 167 degrees. This is a new site, though in the same compartment (about half way down the west coast of France) where we have had a Sedge Warbler in 2008 (as well as five Reed Warbler exchanges previously). Our Sedge Warbler  and Reed Warbler control maps can be found on the links down the side of the blog. All the maps will very shortly be updated to include all 2023's recoveries.

The wet/windy weather of the New Year had caused the Lake level to put about a foot of water into net lanes 3 & 3A. Quite a bit lower than in early 2020 when the water was lapping the hut floorboards, and prevented us getting to our CES area to undertake habitat maintenance. With an improvement in the weather, the water was already receding on Friday 5th, and Andy/Jerry did the 5th wrp visit for a catch of 32 + (15). The species mix was again heavily biased by Blue Tit, and the details were Dunnock 3, Robin (2), Goldcrest 1, Marsh Tit (1), Coal Tit 1 + (1), Blue Tit 20 + (7), Great Tit 2 + (3), Long-tailed Tit 2, Nuthatch (1), House Sparrow 2, and Greenfinch 1.
