Another spell of settled weather, at the end of the month, gave the opportunity for some more roost catches. On Sunday 27th, Jerry had a catch of 12 + (3), including 8 Redwing and 2 Song Thrush. On Monday, Alan L's arrival was delayed by traffic problems, and a Sparrowhawk was already in the scrub (and had taken a Redwing), before he had set the nets. He caught just (4) birds, with no "target species", but saw both Tawny Owl and Barn Owl in the scrub area. On Tuesday, Andy had some problems with leaves being blown into some nets, but managed a catch of 15 + (2), including 7 Redwing, and an un-ringed "family" group of 7 Long-tailed Tit. On Wednesday, Jeremy finished the run of visits with an afternoon/roost visit (Jerry joined him for the roost). The catch was 27 + (3), including another un-ringed group of 10 Long-tailed Tit, 11 Redwing and 2 Song Thrush. Two small bats were hunting in the shelter of the hut area at dusk.
Species details - Wren 1 + (2), Robin (3), Song Thrush 4, Redwing 26, Goldcrest 1 + (2), Blue Tit 2 + (3), Great Tit 1, Long-tailed Tit 17 + (2), Lesser Redpoll 1 and Bullfinch 1.
During October we managed to ring 245 birds, making the YTD 2146
