December - Week 1

December started (as November had ended) with very windy weather, but on Friday 4th it had eased a little. It was still a bit breezy, so Andy and Jerry opted for the more sheltered location of the hut's sunflower feeders. In just one and a half hours, they had a catch of 22 + (14), made up of 1 + (1) Coal Tit, 5 + (12) Blue Tit, 2 Great Tit, (1) Nuthatch and 14 Greenfinch. On Sunday, the wind dropped completely in the afternoon, so Jerry tried a net at the nyger feeders. Despite only being about 10m from the sunflower feeders, in about twice the time, he had caught about half a many birds - but a lot fewer tits. The catch of 12 + (6) was made up of 2 + (2) Blue Tit, 7 + (3) Goldfinch, (1) Siskin and 3 Greenfinch.
